1. We start with the use case, not the product
Every guide begins with a question a real person asks: "what keyboard should I buy for programming?" or "which SSD is worth it for a gaming PC?" We define who the guide is for and what they need before looking at a single product.
2. We shortlist, then cut hard
We gather candidates from our own experience, long-term owner feedback, and reputable in-depth reviewers. Then we cut until three to six products remain. A product has to be clearly better than the others at something, whether that is price, build, features or long-term reliability.
3. What we test, and what we do not
We do not run a test lab, and we do not claim to. Most products on this site are ranked from three things we can verify for every listing: how highly owners rate the product on the retailer, how many owners have rated it, and a spec check against what the category needs. A few peripherals, storage drives and desk accessories are things we use ourselves; when a guide draws on that, it says so in the text. When it does not, the guide says plainly that we have not used the product and names the owner data it relies on instead.
How the score works
Every product page shows a score out of 10. It is not a hands-on rating; it is a volume-weighted owner-feedback score. We start from how highly owners rate the product on the retailer and pull that toward the catalog average by the equivalent of 50 reviews, so a product with twenty reviews cannot outscore one with two thousand at the same level. The result is scaled to 10 and capped at 9.8; a product with no owner feedback yet shows 8.0. Scores are recalculated every time the listing is re-imported. We do not republish the retailer's star ratings, review counts or customer reviews on this site; the product page links to them instead.
4. We look for the failure modes
Specs tell you what a product does on day one. We care about day 300: does the wireless connection drop, do the keycaps shine, does the SSD throttle, does the monitor USB-C hub cause problems? Owner complaints that repeat across many reviews are weighted heavily.
5. We revisit guides
Products get discontinued and better ones ship. Each guide shows its last-updated date, and we revise picks when the market changes rather than leaving an old list up for years.
